Dong Yizhi, courtesy name Jinlong, pseudonym Taiyi Xiaoqiao, was born in 1946 in Chang 'an, Xi' an. He is a renowned Chinese poet, writer, calligrapher, and painter, a national-level stage designer, a founding member of the Xi'an Chinese Painting Academy, and a committee member of the Shaanxi Provincial Artists Association. He is also the author of the inscription on the Hong Kong Return Monument at the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor.
Due to his family's profound scholarly heritage—including his grandfather Dong Fucheng, a renowned scholar from Guanzhong during the late Qing Dynasty; his father Dong Bingxi, a respected local figure from Fanchuan; and his own grandfather Dong Yizhi—three generations of the family devoted themselves to researching, organizing, and creating works in traditional Chinese poetry, prose, calligraphy, and painting. At age twelve, Dong Yizhi joined the May 1st Theater Troupe under the Political Department of the former Shaanxi Provincial Military Region as a stage art designer. After turning thirty, he traveled extensively to study under prominent artists from both northern and southern China, including Cai Ruohong, Liu Haisu, Lu Yanshao, Xu Bangda, Fei Xinwo, Yu Zicai, He Haixia, Huang Zhou, and Gu Yuan. During this period, he also exchanged ideas with senior scholars of traditional Chinese studies such as Zhao Puchu, Qi Gong, and Wen Huaisha, as well as literary masters like Wu Zuguang, Zhou Erfu, and Gao Zhanxiang, and proposed establishing the Xi' an Chinese Painting Academy.
Throughout his career, he has independently designed over sixty theatrical productions of various scales, including large-scale, medium-sized, and small-scale works, which have received awards at national, Northwest China, and provincial/municipal level performances.
In 1987, Dong Yizhi was among the first group of professionals recognized as Senior Art Designer by a panel of leading experts during China's national professional title evaluation.
In September 1981, upon recommendation by international calligraphy and painting experts, it was selected to represent China at the "International Ink Painting Research Exhibition" held in Japan and was collected by Japanese institutions as a research piece.
In June 1986, he was received by masters Liu Haisu and Lu Yanshao in Shanghai, who inscribed for him the phrases "True energy flows forth" and "Transforming the ancient into the new." Shang Yan subsequently founded the Xi 'an Chinese Painting Academy in Xi' an. In 2000, Dong Yizhi was included in the "World Dictionary of Celebrities: Figures of the Twentieth Century," where he appeared on the book's cover for global recognition; the publication highly praised Mr.Dong's artistic journey, achievements, and his work Inscription for the Hong Kong Return Monument at the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor for its significant artistic impact on Chinese cultural history.
In 2007, commemorating the tenth anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China, his works—the complete handwritten manuscript of "Inscription for the Hong Kong Return Monument at the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor" and the Long Song series from Pine and Cypress Collection: Long Live China—were featured in the special issue "National Treasures" dedicated to this occasion.
In 2014, he successively created works such as "Taishan Scroll," "Huashan Sketches Scroll," "Five Hundred Arhats Scroll," "Hukou Scroll," and "Six Dreams of Life."
The 2021 selection of works is included in the "People's Artists" series published by China Cultural Publishing House.
Over the years, he has contributed inscriptions or served as principal planner or consultant for the Huangdi Mausoleum, Yandi Mausoleum, Badaling, Great Wall Stele Forest, Dong Zhongshu Art Stele Corridor, and Huairou Ancient Great Wall Stele Forest. He was appointed as a consultant for the Huairou Xiangshui Lake Tourism Development Zone; cultural planning consultant for Xinjiang Urumqi High-Tech Industrial Development Zone Kexin Company; artistic advisor for Beijing Dingren Cultural Technology Development Center; senior consultant for Chengdu Information Company; special guest at Wenjin Club; invited poet, calligrapher, and painter for the Ministry of Finance's Beijing Debao Hotel; and senior planning consultant for China International Culture Communication Center, among other cultural ambassador roles.
This initiative commemorates the historic and politically significant event of Hong Kong's return to the motherland in 1997. Jointly organized by the United Front Work Department, the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, and the Shaanxi Overseas Friendship Association, it involved erecting a monument at the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor to mark Hong Kong's reunification. The public solicited inscriptions for the monument from Chinese communities worldwide, and Mr.Dong Yizhi's inscription was selected as the top choice for the commemorative stele.
At the turn of the millennium, Dong Yizhi was selected for inclusion in the "Dictionary of Chinese and Foreign Celebrities: 21st Century Volume" published by China News Publishing House, and was featured on the cover of this series as a global representative.(注:来自智能翻译)
