Bing Feng, male, born in 1966 in Dalian into a family of artists, is the President of the Ink Chinese Dragon Culture Research Institute; a member of the Liaoning Provincial Artists Association; a council member of the China Marine Painters Association; former Vice President of the China United Promotion Association; President of the China Giant Dragon Culture Calligraphy and Painting Academy; Vice President of the Beijing Tianjiao Calligraphy and Painting Academy; Deputy Chairman of the World Chinese Businessmen Calligraphy and Painting Art Committee; council member of the Western Artists Association; and council member of the Sancai Calligraphy and Painting Academy under the China Poetry, Calligraphy and Painting Research Society.
Born into a family of scholars, Bing Feng was immersed in traditional culture from an early age. Influenced by his grandfather Bing Luchang, a professor of fine arts at Dalian University, he began painting at the age of five. His works cover a wide range of subjects; initially studying his grandfather's techniques, he later delved into the paintings of Chen Rong—the pioneer of ancient dragon painting—as well as the red landscapes of Li Keran and the ink-wash landscapes of Jia Youfu. He never confined himself to the methods of his predecessors, demonstrating remarkable innovation and a distinct personal style. He also developed modern painting techniques such as the "rotating knife stone-cutting method" and the "water-erosion lotus technique."
At the age of twenty, he made a promise to his grandfather: "I will paint a giant dragon measuring 200 meters in length and 2 meters in width." After more than two decades, he finally fulfilled this commitment. The challenging years over the decades gave rise to numerous new concepts, leading him to develop a fresh interpretation of the dragon: "The dragon is the genetic essence of the Chinese nation—its root and soul."
Artistic Achievements (Part):
It took him nearly a decade to complete the pure ink Chinese painting "The Soul of China," measuring 208 meters in length and 1.9 meters in width, adorned with 99 giant dragons. Additionally, eighteen renowned artists from China jointly inscribed dedications for it; Tianjin People's Fine Arts Publishing House specially designed a pull-out album titled "Da Hong Pao"; the work was exhibited at the China Millennium Monument on September 6, 2011; and it was awarded the title of "Guinness World Record."
His works have been exhibited multiple times in provincial and national art exhibitions and are part of public collections. His creations "The Taiwanese People's Defense of the Diaoyu Islands" and "<China's Successful Explosion of the First Atomic Bomb" were featured in the National Red Painting Exhibition, winning a silver medal and a bronze medal respectively.
The publications "China Contemporary Master Painters Collection: Bing Feng" (Da Hong Pao) and "Bing Feng Painting Collection" were released. On September 6, 2011, the Bing Feng Hundred Dragons Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition was held at the China Millennium Monument (individual exhibition, Beijing). In May 2012, he participated in the 8th Shenzhen Cultural Expo (individual exhibition, Shenzhen). In October 2013, his work "Monument" was selected for the National Chinese Painting Exhibition organized by the China Artists Association.
On June 5, 2015, the inaugural National Ocean Day exhibition was held in Sanya, Hainan, as part of a joint exhibition organized by the Marine Artists Association.
