The guqin "Shikuang-style – Tai Gu Yi Yin" used in the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics was crafted by Wang Peng. The essence of his guqin-making lies in preserving authentic traditions while achieving innovative integration. In 2018, he presented the guqin musical dance drama Chu Wu Yin at the Melbourne Arts Festival, winning Australia's Green Room Award for Best Music Composition and Music Design, becoming the first Chinese musician to receive this honor.
In 2009, the Guqin education institution "Jun Tian Qin Yuan" was established to advocate that "the guqin embodies the human heart," promote the study of guqin artistry and its philosophy, as well as life aesthetics and cultural cultivation; to acquire knowledge through the study of life aesthetics and achieve unity between knowledge and practice through cultural cultivation; to integrate the guqin philosophy of "subtle elegance, modest profundity, balance, and harmony" more diversely into contemporary life; and to ensure the vibrant inheritance and promotion of the "heaven-earth spirit" and "humanistic sentiment" inherent in guqin art.
Wang Peng has dedicated many years to the study of guqin music and authored works such as Records of Jun Tian's Guqin Craftsmanship, Essentials of Guqin Practice, and Restoration and Production of Traditional Silk Strings for the Guqin. He has also released musical albums including Gao Ming Jun Tian, Jun Tian Yun He, and No Trace. His editorial contributions include Zi Yuan Tang Guqin Scores, Tian Wen Ge Guqin Scores, Selected Ink Manuscripts of Liu Shaochun's Guqin Scores, and the special commemorative issue Guqin: A Centennial Anniversary of the Guangling Guqin Society. They have participated in numerous events including the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition organized by the Ministry of Culture, cross-strait intangible cultural heritage joint exhibitions, the Guqin and Life Aesthetics Exhibition at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, the Saudi Arabia Heritage Culture Festival, the Melbourne Art Festival in Australia, the Israel Art Festival, the South Bank Art Festival in the UK, the National Art Fund's performance series "Traveling Through Objects: China's Guqin Art and Contemporary Life Aesthetics," and UNESCO Asia-Pacific Center's New Zealand intangible cultural heritage showcase, as well as key diplomatic activities such as the China-Africa Forum and the Third Belt and Road Summit.
